The Church for All Peoples
Holyrood Church is a congregation of the Episcopal Diocese of New York. It is part of the Episcopal Church of the United States and the world-wide Anglican Communion. Holyrood Church (Holyrood means “Holy Crucifix” or “Holy Cross”) was founded as a Protestant Episcopal congregation in 1893 by Rev. William Oliver Embury. As a People’s Church we lead people into a healthy relationship with God, Jesus, others, and themselves.
The Church serves a multicultural, multiracial, multiethnic, and multigenerational community of people who congregate to worship in three languages; English, Spanish, and Sign Language (ASL). Holyrood Church is part of the New Sanctuary Coalition of New York City and serves as a safe refuge for immigrant families facing deportation. |
